Unified Procurement Services Team

The Unified Procurement Services Team (UPST) was created to provide purchasing, accounts payable, bid execution (sourcing), contracts, and supplier management services to the University of Massachusettes and our partner/ supplier community. We are professionals gathered from all the various UMass campuses to provide high-quality service while driving transaction efficiency.

We manage an average of $1 billion in third-party spend annually, and 30,000 suppliers/partners by leveraging optimized technology, data-driven business intelligence, staff development strategies, and enhanced operational processes.

Our key objectives are:

  • To provide responsive, consistent, and high-quality customer service
  • To reduce costs through efficiency and strategic sourcing/category management
  • To provide staff with continuous development opportunities
  • To develop and maintain strong campus relationships

UPST Projects

To achieve our mission of "Better, Faster, Cheaper", the UPST is partnering with various partners both within the President's Office and our various campuses. These projects span automation, technology adoption, process improvement, policy harmonization, and a whole lot more.

Software for Personal Use

The President's Office and campus Information Technology departments have worked hard to ensure employees and students have access to free and/or IT equipment/discounted software. The Information Technology teams collaborated with the UPST to ensure that cost benefits generated for the system can be extended to our employees for a wide range of equipment/software to be used for their own personal purchases.
