How do you know if the work you’d like to undertake is a project? How do you know if you need a project manager?

Definition of a Project

In UITS we define a project as: A temporary organization formed to create a strategic product or service.  A project concludes when the product or service has been delivered and project resources have been released.

A Project Manager will be assigned to projects that have:

  • A requirement to create a unique or innovative product / service
  • Defined start and end dates
  • Cross-functional collaboration from more than 5 resources
  • A Definition of Done agreed by the sponsor at start-up
  • A minimum 4-month estimated duration
  • Prioritization based on organizational impact / urgency, complexity, and resource availability
  • Professional direction from a skilled project manager
