Elbows and grease - Is what is needed to help keep 50 Washington looking fresh and dressed to impress. Which is what happened on Wednesday, August 13th, as a dedicated team lead by Jillian Warren, oversaw by Lucas Carter, and like the mythical goddess Athena springing forth from Zeus’s mind, came into existence by Amy Thompson as “Operation Clean and Shine”.
With the help of Jade Yacino, Sara MacKenzie, Vicky Berg, Erika O’Malley, Caitrin Merrill, Kathy O’Neil, Akshit Mehta, Diane Pelletier, Lynne Cao, Kathy Sawyer, Jason MacFadyen, Jasmine Manuelyan, Denise Lindberg, Gillian Boulay, Eden Medaglia, Evanthia Tully, Sara Veilleux, Megan Momtaheni, Lisa Connor, Meg Portman, Katie Temple, and Internal Audit, our office space was cleaned and shined with startling efficiency made possible by this dedicated staff.

Coffee Machines where cleaned, cabinets labeled and re-stocked, refrigerators scrubbed inside and outside, the third floor breakroom tables, chairs, and countertops restored to their original fresh-out-the-box look and feel, conference room furniture and tables wiped down and cleaned. Lastly, our chaotically organized 3rd floor storage room was ripped apart from within and reformed into a logical, cleanly organized system…with labels! Making it easy for staff to locate items that are needed or need to be restocked.
This was only possible by turning each cleaning task into a zone that 4 people volunteered to clean at their own pace and for what their schedule allowed. This unique approach allowed for a full day of cleaning to be broken up into just moments of cleaning (excluding the storage room…. don’t ask). As each of the 4-member team was able to individually pick a time that worked for them, and then update the rest of their team on what needed to still be done. Operation Clean and Shine was such a success that we are pleased to announce more cleaning operations will be held in the future (with food provided for the volunteers!).
