Video Training and Support

The Digital Experience (DX) team can provide access, support and training to Office of the President employees who need to access and utilize  the Brightcove video platform.  We also work closely with the Communications Group to ensure Office of the President videos are produced using high quality production techniques and are consistent with UMass branding guidelines.

Video Production Basics

Here are some basic tips and requirements for  producing quality videos to be used on UMassp.edu.

  • Brand Adherence: Videos should be consistent with UMass branding guidelines. Questions about branding should be addressed by the Office of Communications.
  • Content Tips: Video should be shot horizontally and not vertically. Ensure that the video has high quality audio. Videos should be short and to the point.
  • Digital Accessibility: All video should be captioned through our partnership with 3Play Media. Include descriptive audio for visually impaired viewers when needed. The DX team can advise you on captioning services.
  • Engagement: Include clear Calls to Action (CTAs) to engage your audience and guide them.
  • Monitor performance: Track analytics and understand what works and what doesn't.

When To Use YouTube

YouTube is typically part of the Office of the President's Communication and Marketing department's strategy to reach a larger audience, while Brightcove is used on our website(s) and for internal videos, such as training and other materials. YouTube is an effective marketing tool but is primarily used for webcasting live events or marketing videos to reach the largest possible audience.

For questions about when to use YouTube or Brightcove to reach an external audience, please open a ticket with the DX Team and the Office of the President's Communications team.
