About Transgender Day of Remembrance

November 20 marks the 26th anniversary of Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), which was originally established in 1999 to commemorate the life of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was murdered in her Boston apartment in 1998. TDOR is now an annual day of remembrance for members of the transgender community who have been victims of anti-transgender hatred and violence.
