Session Description
This session will explore the significant impact of federal funding through data analysis and strategic planning. Ben Sweeney will start by discussing the process of understanding the FY24 data, and its implications for the University. Deirdre Delaney and Monica Jackson will then explain their collaborative efforts in triangulating data from campuses and Treasury tracking. Finally, Deirdre and Joe Skrzek will focus on using these data insights to guide planning for FY26.

Speaker Bio
Joe Skrzek

Joe Skrzek serves as Assistant Vice President of Budget & Planning for the UMass President’s Office. He has worked for the University since July of 2010. His prior positions, all with the UMass President’s Office, include:
- Assistant Budget Director
- Budget Analyst
- Capital Finance Analyst
Joe holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from College of the Holy Cross.
Ben Sweeney

Ben Sweeney serves as the Accounting Manager in the UMASS President’s Office. He has worked for the University since October 2022. His prior positions include:
- Town Accountant for the Town of Hopkinton
- Assistant Controller for the Archdiocese of Boston
Ben holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Assumption University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Deirdre Delaney

Deirdre Delaney serves as the Director, Financial Data & Analysis for the UMass President’s Office. She has worked for the University since January of 2019. Her prior positions include:
- Manager, Financial Data & Analysis for the UMass President’s Office
- Financial Analyst II for the UMass President’s Office
- Financial Analyst for Perkins School for the Blind
Deirdre holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Bentley University and a master’s degree in business analytics from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Monica Jackson

Monica Jackson serves as the Director of Cash Management for the UMass President’s Office. She has worked for the University since December of 2006. Her prior positions include:
- Reconciliation Analyst for the Treasurer’s Office
- Senior Control Accounting Specialist for PFPC, Inc
Monica holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Saint Anselm College.
