Dyslexia Awareness Month is internationally recognized annually in the month of October.

What is Dyslexia? As defined by the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity, "People with dyslexia have trouble matching the letters they see on the page with the sounds those letters and combinations of letters make... Dyslexic children and adults struggle to read fluently, spell words correctly and learn a second language, among other challenges. But these difficulties have no connection to their overall intelligence."

One in five people are diagnosed with dyslexia and it is a life long condition. The number of people with dyslexia is comparable across genders, though more boys are diagnosed early on in school settings. In addition, accommodations and the type of assistive technology dyslexic individuals use will vary based on individual reading profiles.
