Breast Cancer Awareness Month occurs in October as an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. More than 200,000 cases of breast cancer in women in the US are recorded each year. About 1 in 8 US women (~13%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. It is important to get screened routinely and take preventative measures to reduce your risk and increase your ability to fight breast cancer. The National Breast Cancer site provides a Healthy Living & Personal Risk Guide as well as several other breast cancer awareness guides, including How to Talk about Breast Cancer, What to Say to a Cancer Patient, and a Family Medical History Checklist.
