About Armed Forces Day

Recognized on the third Saturday of May each year since 1950, Armed Forces Day pays tribute to men and women who currently serve across all six branches in the United States military.

What is the difference between Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Armed Forces Day?

As Kerry Ward describes in a Library of Congress article, "The difference is subtle but simple: Memorial Day recognizes those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice – giving their lives in defense of our nation, Veterans Day recognizes the service of our men and women who have hung up the uniform and Armed Forces Day recognizes those currently serving in uniform."
