In "A Series of (Un)fortunate Events," Tom Beraldi will share how living with a chronic illness has influenced his personal life and professional life. It’s a story about biology, art, good luck, bad luck, and purpose. Tom hopes that his story encourages others to reflect on how they find meaning in their own lives.
Speaker Bio
Thomas (Tom) Beraldi joined the president’s office as assistant vice president and chief data strategist in November 2023. In his role, Tom works with the campuses and across the president’s office to maximize the use of data to support reporting, analytics, innovation, and strategy.
Tom has 15 years of higher education experience in research, analytics, evaluation, and planning. Prior to joining UMass, he most recently served as assistant vice president of enrollment analytics at Berklee College of Music where he was responsible for crafting and implementing a strategic enrollment analytics vision. While at Berklee, he modernized predictive modeling operations and designed the institution’s student and enrollment data mart. Prior to Berklee, Tom was a senior consultant at Maguire Associates where he specialized in student success-related research and product development as well as custom survey research.
Tom spent the majority of his career at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), serving as director of institutional research and then associate vice president of research and planning from 2011 to 2021. While at SNHU, he supported academic operations, enrollment management, student success, and finance teams. He also served as interim vice president of enrollment management, IRB administrator, NEASC-CIHE (now NECHE) liaison, and assistant to the campus president.
Tom earned a master’s degree in urban and environmental policy and planning from Tufts University as well as dual bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and political science from Florida State University. He is also a formally trained orchestral percussionist who co-directed the SNHU Percussion Studio and taught in SNHU’s music education program from 2012 to 2015. He resides in Melrose with his wife Emmy and son Calvin.
