ERP systems support essential university operations including Human Resources, Finance, Procurement, and Awards/Grants. Our goal is to create a more connected, user-friendly, and future-ready foundation for the University.
Through thoughtful engagement across the system to identify needs, Project NextGen was established to unite teams and leadership in developing a vision for the future of ERP processes and technologies.

This initiative is about understanding what the University needs and whether modernization could better support our work.
We aim for an ERP to deliver:
- Trusted, Human Resources (HR) services that are simplified, technology-enabled, and powered by aligned data to empower our community.
- Financial services that enable strategic decision-making through automation and mindful consistency.
- Procure-to-pay services that are efficient, consistent, and compliant to reduce cost and cycle time while providing real-time visibility.
- Post-Award Research services that are simple, compliant, transparent, and streamline grant management, reduce administrative burden, and support responsible stewardship of grant funding
Where We Are Today: Procurement & Readiness

Phase 1: Discovery & Engagement
April 2024 - October 2025
UMass leaders and stakeholders collaborated to understand system needs, establish guiding principles, and develop the ERP Roadmap.
Phase 2: Foundation
October 2025 - June 2026
UMass defined its future-state vision, assessed business processes and technology, established governance and change management strategies, and prepared for procurement.
Phase 3: HR and Finance Procurement
July 2026 - March 2027
UMass is evaluating ERP solutions and implementation partners to identify the best fit for modernizing Human Resources and Finance across the system.
Phase 4: HR and Finance Readiness
July 2026 - March 2027
UMass is preparing its people, processes, data, technology, and governance for a potential future implementation.
