The University’s Treasurer’s Office and the Unified Procurement Services Team (UPST) have been aligning payment strategies with advancements in banking. As part of the UMass Disbursement Strategy, the university has transitioned individual suppliers to Recipient Select Plus (RSP), a platform provided by Bank of America. This platform pushed electronic payment options into the hands of our suppliers by offering multiple options, including Zelle, PayPal, and direct deposit.

The migration of individual suppliers to RSP supports one of the UMass Disbursement Strategy project goals of providing a comprehensive, system-wide strategy to streamline disbursements while reducing the usage of checks as a payment channel for domestic individual suppliers. Specifically, the transition to RSP reduces the risks associated with collecting and storing sensitive personal and banking/payment data. UMass is not in the business of storing banking data; we moved this responsibility to Bank of America.

You may be wondering if foreign individual suppliers are excluded from RSP. The answer is no; however, as RSP is a self-service solution, foreign suppliers do not have access to the UMass Supplier Portal. If a foreign individual supplier wants to participate in RSP, you can contact UPST to work directly with them. Note: only PayPal is available for foreign individuals you wish to enroll in RSP.

Remember that you, our campus stakeholders, do not need to do anything. If your supplier has any concerns regarding RSP enrollment, kindly refer them to upst@umassp.edu with the subject “Recipient Select Plus Payment Method,” and we will work directly with them.
