After years of exceptional service, we bid farewell to Chief Procurement Officer David Cho and began an exciting new chapter under the leadership of Michael Durkin, UPST’s new Chief Procurement Officer, and Brian Girard, our new Deputy Chief Procurement Officer. Together, this dynamic leadership team is committed to advancing UPST’s vision of enhancing efficiency, fostering innovation, and building stronger partnerships with suppliers and stakeholders.
Michael Durkin brings extensive experience and a proven track record of success to his role as Chief Procurement Officer. Previously serving as UPST’s Director of Strategic Procurement, Michael has led key initiatives that have driven significant advancements in procurement processes across UMass. His expertise in higher education procurement, including his tenure as Chief Procurement Officer for the University System of New Hampshire, positions him to guide UPST into an exciting future of continued growth and success.
Brian Girard, our newly appointed Deputy Chief Procurement Officer, has been instrumental in UPST’s operational achievements. As the former Director of Procurement Operations and a seasoned leader with experience as Director of Purchasing at UMass Chan Medical School, Brian has consistently demonstrated excellence in streamlining processes and empowering teams. His thoughtful leadership and deep understanding of procurement operations will be key as we continue to elevate the services we provide to the UMass community.
