A medium-light skinned woman with medium length hair.Carolina Avellaneda joined the President’s Office at UMass four years ago as a Director of Governance and Compliance/Strategic Counsel and is now the Chief Strategy Officer. Before that she was the General Counsel and Vice President of Operations at Fisher College. Prior to joining Fisher College, she was a partner at McCarter & English where she had a successful law career.

Carolina currently serves as a Director of the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency and a Commissioner on the Governor’s Latino Advisory Commission. She is a founding member of the Board for My Life, My Choice, a program of the Justice Resource Institute and a founding member of the Board of the Latino Equity Fund at The Boston Foundation. Carolina was formerly Commissioner and Secretary of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.

Carolina was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and emigrated to the United States while she was in elementary school. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
