The grant application will be uploaded via the submission page.  Some information will be typed into the form fields online, and the remainder of the application will be uploaded as a single PDF document, no more than 7 pages long pages – including appendices and figures/tables.  You can download a template to help you prepare the information in advance of submission.

The application will include the following information entered online:

  • The name of the principal investigator(s), campus, UMass email, telephone number, and title of the proposal. Also included will be a one-paragraph description of the technology.
  • A project budget, with total amounts for each of salaries and benefits of professional staff and faculty; stipends and fees for graduate students; payments for external advisors, consultants, or services; supplies; equipment; other, such as travel. Explanation of the total amounts is required, and space is provided on the form.
    • No indirect costs should be included in the budget.
    • Funded recipients may be required to revise their budget in consultation with OTCV staff before funding will commence.

The written document to be uploaded will include the following:

  • A description of the project eligibility, addressing each of the 7 points described in the Eligible Technologies section.
  • A description of the technology including its novelty and advantages over existing technologies.  This should be written clearly and readily understandable.  While manuscripts, grants, patent applications etc. may be attached, the application should be complete on its own.
  • A statement of work proposed for the grant duration, and how this work will address a necessary milestone or stage gate leading to commercialization of the technology.
  • A description of the products and/or services envisioned.
  • Any knowledge you may have regarding the existing state of the commercial market and potential licensing interest. (Your Campus OTCV can assist you with this aspect).
  • Any knowledge you may have of the potential funding sources for the next stage. (Your Campus OTCV can assist you with this aspect).
  • A brief bio of the principal investigator or a weblink to biographical information.  (This does not count toward the 7-page limit).
