Maroun Semaan Chair in Biomedical Research
Marian received her undergraduate and PhD degrees in biology from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. She then did a post-doc at MGH and later Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School. She started her lab at UMass Chan in 2003. Her lab pioneered studies in systems biology that focus on the interplay between metabolism and gene regulation. By combining experimental and computational network studies, her work has unveiled how metabolism can be altered in different diseases. She prides herself in aiming to bring out the best in each of her trainees and helping them to achieve their career goals. In addition to loving science, she loves her husband, her cats, her horse, and Sichuan food.
