Over 150 years ago, the University of Massachusetts was founded to broaden access to learning.

Central to the mission of our University is to provide a high quality and comprehensive education for our students that will enrich lifelong learning.  Our undergraduate and graduate academic programs are taught by internationally recognized faculty who conduct research to expand the horizons of knowledge.

Global engagement, research, and learning opportunities at the University of Massachusetts allow faculty and students on all of our campuses to become more productive and responsive citizens. We strive to increase the number of students and faculty that have international experiences while at the university to ensure that each member of our community has the sound foundation to be an engaged member of the global society.

To better engage the world in which we live, the University of Massachusetts is dedicated to:

  • Developing and integrating into the curriculum traditional study-abroad and international research and learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Supporting programs that bring faculty, visiting scholars, and students from other countries to the University of Massachusetts
  • Promoting and encouraging faculty to engage in discovery, education and engagement around the world
