Mary Burns

Mary graduated from Lowell High School with the class of 1979, attended Northern Essex CC, and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell with the Class of 1984 earning a BS Degree in Public Service: Administration of Criminal Justice.
Upon graduation from UMass Lowell, Mary spent the first 10 years out of college as a Real Estate Paralegal for a Lowell law firm, and credits that job, and her education that created the path that has defined her career. In 1994, Mary was appointed as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Highway Department’s Outdoor Advertising Board. In 2004, Mary chose to return to the private sector and began her own consulting company and created 3 successful out of home MLBand Splash Media East, LLC.

Mary has extensive experience in out of home advertising, real estate, land leasing, marketing, advertising and is a consultant to the outdoor advertising industry. Mary was born and raised in Lowell and continues to call Lowell home. Mary and 5 of her siblings are graduates of the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Presently, as Vice Chair of the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees, Mary also serves as Chair of the University of Massachusetts Building Authority, Past Chair of the Advancement Committee, and past member of the University of Massachusetts Foundation, Co-chair of the University of Massachusetts Lowell Chancellor Search Committee, Member of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Chancellor Search Committee, Member and Former Secretary/Treasurer of the University of Massachusetts Building Authority. Mary also serves as the appointed University of Massachusetts representative to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, as well as countless other committees and sub committees. Mary also volunteers her time as a member of the Advisory Committee for UTEC of Lowell.
