Identity theft is a large and growing issue. As the single factor password, “Something you know” can be easily compromised, UMass is implementing multi-factor authentication to strengthen our authentication process that creates an additional layer of Security.
The UMass Multifactor Authentication verifies your Identity using two types of authentication when logging into the system;
Something you know - your username & password
Something you have - your smartphone, tablet, or landline phone
MFA Provides increased security, with a higher assurance that information is accessible only to the intended people. We are protecting your personal information, your intellectual property, and University data
Before using MFA you need to enroll your device (smartphone, tablet, or landline phone).
Stay tuned, your IT departments & Help Desk will be sending you more information soon!
Yes, you can.
HR Direct is going live with Multi-Factor first. Look for additional roll-outs in the future.
Devices based on the following Mobile OS are supported by DUO
Android 4.0 and greater
iOS 8 and greater
Windows Phone 8 and greater
UMass has selected Duo Security as its partner to bring multi-factor authentication to its faculty, staff, and students.
To make sure that your transition to this new security process is seamless, we are currently in the testing phase. MFA will to go-live for most campuses on August 1st 2017 for HR Direct.
Look for additional communications from your campus on your go-live date.
