Marty Meehan is the 27th president of the 75,000-student University of Massachusetts system. The UMass system consists of campuses in Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, and Lowell, with UMass Medical School in Worcester and the UMass School of Law in Dartmouth.
The university has an annual operating budget of $3.4 billion, graduates more than 18,000 students a year and has more than half a million alumni worldwide. UMass conducts $670 million in annual research expenditures and the university is an established national leader in generating licensing income.
The president is the university's chief executive officer and works to advance its mission of education, research and public service.
